Remote Role
Executive Producer
State Of Gold
Role Description & Responsibilities
**WHY STATE OF GOLD
**
Our Mission: State of Gold makes the case - fact-based, rigorous, unafraid to take a hard position, and to the point. Whether you’re conservative, moderate, or a Democrat who’s landed somewhere more independent - if you’re here for the substance, you’re in the right place.
Trust in traditional media has fallen to a record low, and the audience isn’t waiting around: Most Americans now get their news on digital devices, a fast-growing share on YouTube itself, and by seeking out individual voices over institutions they no longer trust. State of Gold is built for exactly that shift - a video-first network for the underserved “silent majority” of American viewers who want fact-based, civil, and rigorously argued commentary.
In its first year, the flagship State of Gold Podcast with Jon Slavet has attracted a monthly audience of 175,000 viewers across YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify, with 51% of the audience in California and the balance nationally. We are hiring a founding Executive Producer to run production and content development for the network - someone who has done this before at a high level, knows how to make premium content efficiently, and wants to help build a new network from the ground up.
The company is backed by some of the most prominent Californians, with strong early traction and a clear playbook for growth: Build an authentic audience, and scale through talent expansion, content diversification, and strategic partnerships. You'll help define how the network looks, sounds, and runs as it grows from a single show into a full network.
**WHAT YOU'LL DO**
Own end-to-end production for the network - the flagship podcast, new shows and hosts as the roster expands, and the content pipeline feeding social.
Design and run production workflows that deliver high quality and distinctive video on a startup budget, using modern, AI-assisted production tools and processes.
Recruit, evaluate, and manage a bench of hosts, contributors, and content providers alongside the CEO - drawing on your own network across California and national politics and media.
Manage production budgets like an owner: Plan spend against milestones, negotiate vendor and freelance costs, and report transparently on where every dollar goes.
Build the systems (scheduling, guest booking, production, quality control) that let the network scale seamlessly from one show to many.
Travel as needed, particularly across California in the near term, to shoot on location, scout talent, and build relationships as the network grows.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
A decade of distinguished news production experience for a known media brand, or, at a top-tier podcast touching on politics.
A demonstrated ability to deliver superior production value at low cost, with fluency in modern online production platforms, tools, and workflows.
A strong, active network in California and national politics - and the relationships to bring us potential hosts, content providers, and contributors.
A track record managing significant budgets and consistently delivering on target.
Comfort operating in a fast-paced, resource-lean environment where the plane is being built while it flies.
Willingness to be on the road as needed as we build the network, initially concentrated in California.
Genuine excitement about shaping an important new network from its earliest days.
